Kitsons Now Members of The National Mental Capacity Forum (NMCF)
Marjorie Creek, a Solicitor in our Private Client Department, has been accepted as an associate member of The National Mental Capacity Forum (NMCF), which is a joint new Ministry of Justice and Department of Health initiative.
The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) was introduced in 2005 to help give power to people with impaired capacity, to make as many decisions as possible and to make certain, that if others make decisions on their behalf, that they do so, in their best interests.
However, it has since become clear that stakeholders from health and social care, together with those from other sectors (such as, finance, legal, police, housing) need to work together, especially at a local level, in a more co-ordinated way, to help improve the implementation and understanding, of the MCA.
Baroness IIora Finley, who is Chair of the NMCF, says that its members are working to disseminate a clear understanding of the MCA, to make sure those who need support, can get it and that they are empowered to make their own decisions wherever possible.
The Private Client Department at Kitsons is committed to supporting this new initiative, to enhance client care and to ensure that best practice can be developed and shared within the national forum.
