Probate

Please read our helpful Q&A Probate Q&A or watch our video explaining what happens during probate Probate process

The loss of a loved one or friend can be a very difficult time. Your focus is on coping with your loss and arranging the funeral.

At the same time, if you are an Executor or a beneficiary, you may also find yourself dealing with lots of legal paperwork.

This can be a stressful time, particularly if you are unsure of the probate process. If the friend or relative that has died did not leave behind a valid will then there may be uncertainty about who has the legal authority to manage the estate and who the beneficiaries are.

It is important to get things right at an early stage so that you are reassured that you are following the correct legal process.  If you are an Executor and you make a mistake in handling matters then you could be personally liable for any financial loss the estate suffers.

As a team we deal with estates on a daily basis. We handle a huge range of estates, from modest estates comprising a flat and a bank account through to complex estates with multiple investments and assets abroad.

We understand the probate process inside out and can guide you through all the various stages from interpreting the will, to paying any tax due, to distributing the estate to the beneficiaries.

We will do as little or as much as you want us to do and we will be open from the start about what it will cost you.

If you need help with an estate please get in touch.

We can help you with:

  • Immediate support and advice following a bereavement
  • Tracing the assets of the estate and establishing their value
  • Completion of HM Revenue & Customs forms making sure that you comply with relevant legislation and regulations
  • Making the Application for a Grant of Representation (the legal authority to deal with the assets of the estate)
  • Realising and Transferring Assets
  • Distribution of the Estate
  • Advance Care Planning
