Wills for Parents Scheme

At Kitsons we appreciate that times are extremely tight for most couples starting a family. Finances have to be prioritised to cover maternity/paternity leave, nappies, another mouth to feed and childcare costs for example.

When finances are so tight and you are quite rightly more focused on being the best Mum or Dad you can, but with a lot less sleep than you had before, sorting out your wills is not high on your list of priorities. You may not have very much to leave to anyone, so what is the point of having a will?

Well firstly it provides certainty so that your loved ones know what you want to happen to your Estate when you are gone. Secondly and much more importantly it explains who you would want to look after your child or children until they reach 18 should the worst should happen.

In your will you can appoint guardians who will be responsible for your child’s day to day care and decisions about their moral upbringing and health. If both you and your partner die before your children reach 18 and you have not appointed guardians the Court will appoint them for you, but they could choose people that you would not have chosen yourself.

At Kitsons we want to encourage parents with children under 18 to put in place wills, so that you take into account your growing family. We are therefore offering a “Wills for Parents Scheme” until September 2012 whereby we will prepare simple family wills for you and your partner (whether you are unmarried or married) at a cost of £100 plus VAT (£50 plus VAT for a single will). This represents an overall saving of £65 plus VAT on our normal charge for joint wills (and £85 plus VAT for a single will).
