Licensing and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
To mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign, the Diamond Jubilee will take place this year. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June.
The Queen came to the throne on the 6th February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2nd June 1953. The Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee in 2002 and is the only monarch (other than Queen Victoria) to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee.
To celebrate this achievement, licensed premises in England and Wales will be permitted to open later on 1st and 2nd June for an additional 2 hours beginning at 11pm only.
The extended hours will not apply to the sale by retail of alcohol for the consumption off the premises.
The extended hours only apply to those premises which do not already have a licence or a certificate authorising licensed activities to be carried on after 11pm. Therefore, if your licence or certificate already allows you to trade beyond 11pm then the extension of hours will be of no benefit to you. However, if your licence or certificate ceases at 11pm on the 1st and 2nd June, then the extension of hours will allow you to operate until 1am on the morning of 2nd and 3rd June helping you and your patrons to be at the heart of the jubilee celebrations.
